A number of artists and galleries in town are busy preparing for our 2nd annual art walk: the Canmore Studio & Gallery Tour. Participants can walk, bike or drive to this year’s 25 Canmore locations over two weekends: on September 21st, 22nd, 28th and 29th. In some cases, Canmore residents and visitors will be given a rare opportunity to peek inside professional artists’ studios that are not typically open to the public.
In this town-wide event, 9 local artists will open their studio doors and 8 Canmore galleries will host a weekend of art featuring some of the town’s most celebrated artists with special attractions like demonstrations or plein air paint-outs. Also included on the tour will be 8 Town of Canmore public art pieces located throughout the town.
This year, I will be in studio giving printmaking demonstrations like the one shown on this YouTube video.
The Tour showcases the talents of a wide variety of artists including those working in the areas of painting, blown glass, pottery, printmaking, photography, jewellery, stone carving, metal work and bronze sculpture. Artists will be on hand to share their process and talk about their inspiration.
Last year, Barb Fyvie (my studio partner) and I participated and wecomed about 100 guests a day. It was a fabulous way to meet people, talk art and share our creations.
This year, the participants in the tour agreed to extend the tour over two weekends so that the second weekend could tie into local events planned as part of the larger province-wide celebration of the arts, Alberta Culture Days.
Brochures with tour maps are now available at each participating location. The map and samples of artwork from the participants is also on the Tour’s Facebook site: www.facebook.com/CanmoreStudioandGalleryTour.
The Canmore Studio & Gallery Tour will take place:
Saturday, September 21, 2013: 10 am to 5 pm
Sunday, September 22, 2013: 10 am to 4 pm
Saturday, September 28, 2013: 10 am to 5 pm
Sunday, September 29, 2013: 10 am to 4 pm
Here is a sneak peek into my art studio. Below my studio photos is a list of all participating artists and galleries in Canmore (and links to their websites, where available), plus a list/website for the Canmore public art locations. For those of you close to Canmore, I hope to see you in my studio…for those who follow the blog but are too far to come, enjoy your “virtual” tour by clicking on the website links.
